§ 2-32. Mayor and mayor pro tem.

  • (a)

    Election; term of office. The mayor shall be elected by the electors of the town for a term of two years. The mayor pro tem shall be elected from and by the town council for a term of one year.

    (b)

    Powers and duties of mayor. The mayor shall preside at meetings of the town council and shall be recognized as head of the town government for service of process, ceremonial matters and execution of contracts, deeds and other documents. The mayor shall have the right to cast a deciding vote should any issue before the town council end in a tie. The mayor shall have no administrative duties other than those necessary to accomplish these duties.

    (c)

    Duties of mayor pro tem. The mayor pro tem shall act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor, and, if a vacancy occurs or exists in the office of mayor, the mayor pro tem shall become mayor for the completion of the unexpired term of the former mayor.
