Chapter 12. COASTAL MANAGEMENT, CONSERVATION AND OPEN SPACE |
§ 12.01.01. Shoreline Protection Zone.
Shoreline protection zone means the area that commences at the mean high water line and runs to and includes an area five feet landward of the mean high water line.
A.
The following areas along the bayous and bay shall be considered within the shoreline protection zone:
1.
The waterward line shall mean the line of mean high water.
2.
The landward side shall begin five feet landward of the mean high water line.
B.
Prohibitions. The following activities, unless specifically excepted, shall be prohibited within the shoreline protection zone.
1.
Construction of buildings and structures, except for permitted minor structures;
2.
Removal of vegetation; and
3.
Planting of new vegetation except for native, salt-resistent species suitable for beach and/or shoreline stabilization.
C.
Shoreline enhancement. All persons constructing elevated boardwalks on property located in the shoreline protection zone shall include in their plans, provisions to enhance and re-vegetate the property.
